If we are in town, most Sunday afternoons we go home after church and have a “Sunday dinner”. It is a time we slow down, where sweet tea and dessert are must-haves at the dinner table. Our conversations range from God to politics. We discuss things that happened during the week. Luke, who is animated will sometimes stand up as he tells us a story. A family Sunday dinner is a tradition that I love and cherish. I realize that as our kids get older, it might be harder to make it happen, but right now it is working.
Family traditions are one of the many pieces of the puzzle that help build healthy family relationships.
Our family enjoys going on vacation to the same place each year. During that week, we are together 24 hours a day biking, swimming, and playing miniature golf and games. It is a tradition that we look forward to each year.
Family traditions will vary. Some families love to hike together or play board games. Other families might like to fish. The family tradition is not as important as the regular time spent together making wonderful memories and bonding as a family.
Every family needs activities or events that they do together on a regular basis as a family. The activity or event might change as your kids get older, but the important thing is to find something that your family can do together. Your family’s tradition might be just trying new activities together. The key is being together. Being together is how strong relationships are built.
We would love to hear of family traditions or activities that your family enjoys.
