Homeschool, Public School or Christian School

Several years ago, I was talking with a friend who was adamant that you should send your kids to public school.  His thought was that, Christian kids need to realize at an early age that there are people that will strongly oppose your beliefs and even make fun of you.  To a degree, I see his point.  I grew up going to public school and I believe it made me a stronger person.  Around middle school, I wanted to home school so bad.  I tried to convince my parents that I wanted to home school because of the evil environment that I was in. The truth was, I thought it would be less work. Thankfully, they did not give in because I probably would have never received a diploma.

Crista and I are in the middle of raising three young kids.  Schooling is a top priority for us.  Being we both went to public school, we assumed we would send our kids to public school.  Then we decided to move in an area where the school system is poor.  We prayed not knowing what to do.  Christian school never really entered our minds until one day we received a brochure in the mail advertising a local Christian school.  Our kids have been going ever since and up to this point, we have felt at peace this is the right decision for our family.  Our principal has stated that we are the only family he is aware of that has attended our school by receiving a brochure through direct mail.

There are several thoughts when it comes to how a child should be educated.   Listed below are a few of them.

  1. Homeschool – Some folks feel that homeschool is the proper way to educate your children.  They believe that you are able to control the environment and what your kids are learning.
  2. Public school – Some believe as stated earlier that it exposes kids to the reality of life.
  3. Christian school – Others, believe this is the best decision, as it provides a good environment for your child.

I have found in life that there are not always one size fits all answers.

What might  be right for one family, might not be right for another family.  Educating your children is an excellent  example that there are some decisions in life that  not one way is the right way for everyone.   Choosing how your child is going to be educated is a decision that needs to be prayerfully considered by mom and dad and not just follow what is popular in your circle.  God knows exactly what your child needs, their makeup, what they can handle and the area that you live in.

The easy way to handle the challenges of life is to make decisions based upon what every one else is doing.  The right way is to get desperate and pray and seek the sovereign will of God for your family.

Allow God to answer you in the way He wants to answer.  His answer might come through a minister, friend or a still small voice that gives you peace that you have made the right decision.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.  Psalm 32:8

Thou wilt shew me the path of life… Psalm 16:11

I read all the articles in here. These things should be very encouraging to all parents that have a love for their children, that want to guide them and teach them in the things that are right. In a world that the trend today is to stay busy, parents should not let that influence them. Spend quality time with your family. Other things can wait. Take it from me, later on in life, you’d wish you had, or glad you did.
